I resisted! For over an hour I had grub hub opened in my side window just because of free delivery. I'd like to thank the thousands of hours of psychological therapy that university surveys have provided me. I'm feeling about a 6/7, I see myself as outgoing and enthusiastic (mostly agree), and I think that all groups should have an equal chance in life. whew.

I went thru a half dozen pairs, was convinced I didn't like hiking that much cause my feet always felt heavy and clunky (even in ultra lights), and then a triple crowner told me to try altras. They aren't perfect (tho, the gaiter clips and ability to stick on some micro spikes is a plus!) but I've been able to crush some really intense hikes, both in distance (I've topped out at 20.5 on the trail with a good bit of elevation) and difficulty (scrambling to a peak with nothing but loose rocks for a few miles) and I've come out of it without blisters or discomfort, so that's pretty awesome for me. The waterproof ones aren't as good, but the newest iteration worked well for me in fairly wet/snowy conditions, so I'm pretty happy. Matt is the opposite, he likes a heavy hiking, very traditional boot, and I always think it's interesting that different people end up liking different hiking shoes/boots and can get the same shit done. He won't touch some of the crazy hikes I do, tho. He had to outfit me with a garmin and sat nav because I'm a little direction-stupid at times! My friend swears by merrels, and she's pretty nutty too- girl can rock climb like no other. I think foot shape and hiking preference have a lot to do with it, cause I have wide feet and I like a lot of tread but very little shoe other than that. I also found the altras helped with my knee issues because of the zero drop shoe, but I know they made Matt's ankles feel like crap because we have very different gaits. I always just tell people to keep trying on different hiking shoes till you find what sparkles with ya, cause it definitely changes how much you enjoy yourself!
