A traditional makes it so yoiu can avoid paying taxes now, but instead pay taxes when you take it out when you retire.


If there weren't any contribution limits - people would just put all their money in there for the tax advantages.

I really wouldn't bother asking anyone here for financial help but what dan said is right as far as I am aware.

ROTH IRA is for when you think you will earn more in the future and a normal IRA is if you think you will make the same or less. At least that is how I understand it.

if the employer does matching for a 401k or whatever - always max that out first before even considering an IRA, (unless they use some company that charges a ton of fees or something, or puts the money in stupid investments). company matching is free money.
