Forum bakers - if a bread recipe says to bake on parchment paper, can I just use cornmeal instead? That'll be fine, right?

i've used parchment instead of cornmeal on things, but never the other way around, i would think it would... yeah what tracy said

 

You don't want to use wax paper either by accident thinking you grabbed the parchment paper...don't ask me how I know...

I think my oven privileges should be revoked... what I thought was cornmeal is actually grits so who knows what disaster I would have ended up with

 

For the lazy

 

You MAY be able to get around this with a VERY light dusting of corn meal on the pan and placing it on the very top rack of the oven with a cookie sheet on the oven below it. That way the heat is not directly reaching the pan with the cornmeal. However, that may interfere with the baking of the bread. (But I don't recommend it)

 

I suppose I could have done that. I was happier about the email TBH. First time someone's commented on a review of mine. I didn't know I got an email.

 

The 90s were a beautiful time...gonna go find copies of Swing Kids and Swingers now
