    LOL, no shit.

I have a 529 plan for him. (By the way? Open one up for your spawn as soon as she is born, investing early is what makes it worth it).

And I have this whole other job. My mom is planning to retire when he goes to college so I get to run the business if I want and pay myself what I want!

Also, I still have to buy that Spanish textbook for his summer college course. $180. yikes. Still hoping the teacher has a more affordable option, but we haven't heard from the teacher yet as that doesn't start until June 24.

He could always just get loans like everyone else and finish paying them off shortly before he retires.

or the “go to community college and drop out to take care of your ailing parent” degree. i mean no, don’t do that, because that’s one way to end up on mturk.

I have a friend at UC Merced that just graduated from their math program and made it into a bunch of grad and PhD programs all over the place.

Hoping to avoid that. I'm still paying off mine (but I did go to grad school), and I'd really like to avoid him having to do that.

My parents didn't help me at all.

My oldest is doing her post-doc there. I think the youngest likes it there, and I love the campus, and it's still a bit easier to get into as it's so new.

But, of course, we have to make sure they have a good program for what he wants to study. He's just finishing his Freshman year of HS so we have a bit to figure it all out thankfully.

We are not opposed to this option, but if he does that he will live at home during those years.

I'd REALLY like him to move out at least for his first year of college. He REALLY needs to be more social.

He finds kids tiresome. After about 4th grade when things got political he decided kids suck. He's not much more fond of teenagers. I'm hoping he will like college students, lol.

We live within walking distance of one (and biking distance of their other campus, it's so big it has two campuses), so yeah. He'll live with me to save money if he goes that route.

Of all kids, this is the one I worry about actually moving out. He's kind of slow to mature. I mean, he just turned 15 on Monday, so he's not exactly old, but...he's absolutely not interested in things that other teens his age are. Except video games. Those he's interested in. And Marvel.

Most teens find him tiresome as he prefers to talk about video games, or history. His other passion. (Or the science fiction book he's writing, which I have to admit even I find a bit tedious at times, lol, and I love him dearly.)

Sticking him in a dorm will not make him more social. It gives him his own cubby where he can put on headphones, ignore the roomie, and be even less social.

On the other hand I was a lot more social when I was in my dorms.

I never went out to party but that doesn't matter.

I remember when my oldest started college at UC Davis. I went to visit her, and in her dorm elevator it stopped on a floor and a clearly not social freshman was standing there with a laundry basket. He took one look at my tall, gorgeous daughter and nearly bolted. But he manned up and got on the elevator.

Found out later that was one of the floors for...uh...some program that would be full of the antisocial type.

THAT will totally be my youngest.

But you found your way, you're here and social! There's hope for him!
