Yes, but while it's nice if a parent can help, a student has many option without going into debt. Their grades and extra curricular activities can give them grants and scholarships. They can go part time and work their way through college. It's definitely doable if they want it. Yes, I think books are crazy, ridiculously over priced. But, for the most part, there are options if one really has the drive and desire to attend.
