I made a lot of my choice based on the scholarship offerings/tuition. I really fell in love with Clemson, but wouldn't have gone if I hadn't gotten the offers I had. I would have went somewhere that offered me something more feasible or community college if it came down to that. I still had to put my stepmom's salary on my fafsa, which dicked me out of a lot of need based stuff. (It did change a couple years later, tho) It didn't even matter that I filed my taxes on my own and wasn't a dependant on anyone and never lived at home or took any money from them the day I turned 18. But, ah well, I'm ok with how my life turned out. My last few years of part timing were truly rough with my health, but I got thru it and I'm ok with things, even if I blacked out some of the really bad times from my memory. I think life is pretty dandy and I'm grateful for what I have, because where I came from was really really not good.

As @ChrisTurk can attest, Clemson gives you a free year of tuition if you don't nab a man within 18 months of graduation with your MRS degree.

Also, hugs again for your daughter That's incredibly rough and I hate that for you.
