Kinda looks like a Tarantula Hawk Wasp, but I don't see the stinger and they aren't usually that far north, that I know of. They hunt tarantulas, paralyze them with their sting, drag them back to their lair(?), lay their eggs in the paralyzed tarantula, then leave the lava there to eat the still living spider when they hatch. They don't usually mess with people. If they do, you're fucked. Second most painful bite/sting you could get. Road Runners are their natural predator if you want to get rid of them.
