Spoiler: Mental health, mostly grief....

So, at 51 years old I have decades of experience, and it's all different. My early 20s had me struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts. I checked myself into a hospital for three weeks. Not sure how much that helped, though....long story there. I basically learned how to do "crazy" pretty darn well.

But the worst came when my daughter died. Rocked my world, changed my everything, caused a life long battle with grief and all that goes with the guilt of having a child die. It's been a journey, she would have turned 18 this October. The first few years were pure hell. I hope and pray life spares me from experiencing that again, and I admit that EVERY SINGLE DAY the thought crosses my mind, "Please don't let another child die, please don't let another child die, please don't let another child die." But, I'm pretty good at shoving that down.

However, her death has made me a better mom. I'd chop off my left arm with a rusty hatchet to be the shitty mom I would have been if she had lived so I could have her, but I don't get that choice. So I take all the gifts her brief life gave me and the lessons I learned when dealing with her death and channel them into being such a better mom. I don't often sweat the small stuff. I worry about my kids like all parents do, but hell if they're breathing and healthy then...we can deal with ANYTHING.

Also, while I'm overly sensitive at times and certain issues hit home too hard, I realized I'm a strong person. I got through the grief as best I could and built a great life for me and Kiddo.

Now off to get some steps in and stop the tears, lol!
