Go through the terms and agreements with him. I can't say I guess 100% there might be some good ones out there but a lot of them don't pay full price for the unit and/or labor. They give you a minimal amount. Also heard of bad times finding people that will repair under these plans and issues with them paying out.

The only insurance I carry is auto insurance (and if it wasn't required, I probably wouldn't carry that either). And even that is bare-ass minimum.

I sold insurance for ~2 years back in the day, and the amount of money those companies rake in is absurd. Like, absolutely bat-shit bonkers absurd. I'm sure one day I'll regret my "live fast, die hard" attitude, but until then, I'll just save my money.
