btw, we used to let the dog on some specific couches (which he took for himself and when he was nowhere to be found, 100% of the time he was sleeping on the couch downstairs). my dog gets very confused when a human is sitting in "his" spot on the couch. i think buz, gurl, and celt all witnessed his "? ? ? ?" when they sat there and he had to figure out very carefully how to sit somewhere else. and still kept looking at the couch like "? ? ? ?"

but that said, he refuses to sleep on my bed with me. he'll lay and snuggle in it, but when it's actual sleep time, he has to be closer to the door to protect me (or pretend to, or something)
