09/23 - Might Be Monday?

Going to sound really dumb here.

There are still liquor controlled states? I thought many of those went away? (or, like, all...)

There are still states where you can't buy alcohol on Sunday and have to go to a special place to buy it on other days? I remember the first time I went to visit friends in PA many, many, many years ago and I was shocked that we couldn't just grab what we wanted right next to the produce section in the grocery store.

Yep. I felt like a badass smuggler every time I went to the Youngstown or Weirton areas to stock up on beer.

 

Yes. PA has loosened some laws, but it is still a mess. Ohio is less of a mess, but liquor above 21% can only be sold at liquor stores and the individual store does not set the price of the bottle, the state does. Actually, the state owns the bottles on the shelf right up until you purchase it, not the store itself.

 

It goes by county in Kentucky. There's some totally dry counties but luckily I live in one of the heathen ones where you can get alcohol any day of the week except election days I think.

 

anyone know if theres a reward for turning people in? statute of limitations?

 

I haven't really bought alcohol in other states so...either it was already present when I visited, or it was in a restaurant or...I was too damn drunk to remember wtf we did to acquire booze?

In CA we just have to buy it before 2 am. Or wait, and then buy it after 6 am because those FOUR HOURS are really damn important to shut down liquor sales.

Yep. I think PA is ranked as one of the most restrictive in the country. It's improved over recent years, but by "improved" that means you can now go to a supermarket and buy wine or beer. You're limited to a certain quantity, which basically works out to a couple of six-packs of beer, and you have to check out separately, at a separate register in the beer/wine section of the supermarket.

Seriously primitive.

Gas stations are slowly being allowed to carry alcohol here in PA. It's slowwwwwwwly getting better but we still can't have alcohol shipped.

Damn. That's like having to go into a special room to find porn to rent back in the non-internet days.

I love the shit out of my country, but not being able to get rip roaring drunk, strip down to my skivvies, and lose all my money playing online poker on Sunday at 4 AM the way God intended is a real sore spot in my heart.

 

They still have those around here too...
