This can be such a situation. My husband and I eloped because 1 person in my family is SO TOXIC the thought of it was killing me. Obviously you're not toxic @tricker , but maybe someone is. Or they got caught up in the moment. Personally I can't fathom spending thousands of dollars on a wedding. Would I have LOVED the full on fairy tale wedding that looked and smelled like the most exotic garden you've ever seen?!?! HELLLLLL YESSSSSSSSS. Was I going to pay for it?! DUCK NO.

Oh, no. They got married the way they did for reasons we all know. Had nothing to do with toxicity, thank goodness. The one parent who did have problems talked to me about his feelings and we worked through them, and he was the only one at Burning Man! I don't think they were even planning it, I think it just happened for certain reasons.
