I run linux, specifically arch and it gets the job done for the most part. If anything nothing is different.

 

I've used both and I still have a personal preference for Mate, so that's just the Bird's feels.

Arch has some of the best documentation but I wouldn't suggest it to a newb lol

 

I run linux as well. There are some random HITs that require windows, but they are very few and far between and I say fuck 'em anyway. Linux trumps. Do it.

 

You could just have a VM with windows on it for those lol

I definitely wouldn't recommend Arch itself to a newb, but something like Manjaro or Antergos is definitely new user friendly.
