***Health Care Shopping info below - Random facts I wish I had 5 days ago... feel free to skip if you're not trying to sort through the insanity:

Alright... I don't know if any of you are trying to get health care from the marketplace or qualify for subsidies or have COBRA but after days of research I found out some interesting things - most of which I got from an accountant friend and insurance agent friend and not from websites or forums or calling etc - so feel free to ignore this if doesn't apply to you, but if you are in this fresh hell of trying to figure it out here's some key info:

1) I put this up yesterday - but just in case - any COBRA plan that expires mid-year causes you to start from scratch on meeting your deductible. (You can only have COBRA for 18 months.)
2) The income threshold for getting a subsidy on the government marketplace is $62,000 for a family of two with no kids.
3) If you estimate that you are going to earn $62,000 or under but actually go OVER than you will owe the subsidy BACK when you file for taxes the following year and could be - in accountant friends words - an "alarming amount".
4) There are ways to make sure you stay under the threshold - such as holding aside an emergency fund <for overages> and making an end of year IRA contribution.
5) This one is the most interesting - and I couldn't find it in any of the documentation sent to me - but it is also possible to not take the FULL subsidy and just take up to what percentage you think you will need to be able to afford your premium. If you opt to take less that the full subsidy amount you will get a refund of the additional subsidy when you file your taxes if you stay under the threshold; or conversely, owe less if you go over. I had no idea this was even an option.

Sorry, you're going to have to write a book and schedule some speaking events before they will take you seriously. Maybe you could start legitimizing your position by producing a selection of some t-shirts with slogans like "will turk 4 food", "What Would Bezos Do?", and "I joined Turkerview and all I got was this lousy shirt?"
