I'd like to throw something in there. Now, I'm not a parent, but I *was* a willful 17 year old boy at one point. A damn smart one if I do say so myself. Classes were too easy and people were too predictable to ever really be a challenge to mess with. It may be that he has simply realized the consequences mean little and is asserting his perceived dominance. Teens, especially intelligent ones, often have a need to feel independent. Unfortunately, for some of us that comes out as pointless rebellion and doing stuff we know we shouldn't do.

I'll give you good new though. As soon as the hormones chill out in the 20's we tend to look back and realize we were being jerks.

Notably, this was over a decade ago for me. However, while circumstances and pressures may change I imagine basic teenage psychology is about the same as it's always been.

 

I agree with a lot of that, at that age I feel like I can't do much. He is a lot like his sister they both exhibit massive mild child syndrome. He's a lot more charming than she is but they both do a lot of the same things in that they desire constant attention from the opposite sex to the point that 1 person isn't enough, so we get to his constant cheating, needing to video chat etc etc.

 

He's very intelligent and I do think that is part of the problem, he wants us to treat him as an equal as an adult and I've told him that'd be fine if he held up his responsibilities but he doesn't do that. He also gets super pissed off at me and his mom because we see through his bullshit more so than anyone else he deals with.

 

how about that scared straight show or whatever it's called where they send teens to prison or whatever and then exploit that shit on television and put the best clips on the youtube

Yeah, see I used to try and avoid high school at all cost cause it was just boring the crap out of me. They have this tendency to repeat information for weeks and that's great for most students but if you get it the first time it's just. 'ugh... shut up. I heard you last week.'

 

it was video games for my son. Is it possible he has a sleeping disorder. We finally had the doctor put ours on trazadon after he insisted that he could not fall asleep and that is why he staid up all night playing games. It was not always useful because he liked playing games and would sometimes not take the meds but it helped as long as we made sure he took it.

It is worth checking into it could be both. If he was having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep then got into these act ivies to entertain himself while awake and now doesn't want to quit

I don't think so, he falls asleep the minute he sits still, sleeps through alarms etc etc. He's got his priorities all jacked up.

It is painfully slow today.

 

Have you tried to public call him out on his BS? as in post the problems you are having on facebook, where all his friends and their parents and complete strangers can see and ask for advise? you dont need to take any of their advice, but putting it out there in the public might at least keep someone else from falling for his BS.

 

I hope you got a refund. That woulda ticked me off!

 

Let me be honest here. This sounds like a pretty terrible thing to do
