Sounds like you and my husband would get along well. We lived for 8 years on the ridge with only a composting toilet, a few solar panels, wood heat and a hand water pump down the steep hill we hauled water from. We had a lot of owls, moose, bear, fox, porkies, etc - and signs of mountain lion although there is huge controversy about that out here (as they are protected and there is a lot of logging in the North Woods).

My husbands Dad in the U.P. used to get calls from locals when a deer was hit on the Hwy and he would go and haul it back to the field by his house to feed the Eagles that nested right by their house.

I'm sorry to hear about your agoraphobia, but understand it. My S.O. regularly needs to go fishing or to the woods to balance out seeing people in our "huge town". (Our town is only 7,000 people and I am from Metro-Detroit - so this was our compromise when we moved off the ridge... )
