My youngest isn't as excited by all that I do as he used to be. But he told me the other day he does really appreciate what I do to make the holidays special. And the older ones love it again.

i'm with you. i'm generally a pretty emotionally-muted person outwardly, and get told that i seem bored when i'm not enthusiastic. when internally, social anxiety is going the entire time, focusing on every word i say, if i smiled right, how i'm sitting, what people are seeing, hearing, etc. i often try to "watch" myself from the outside so i can script what to say/do/react one step ahead of time, and it's really bizarre and probably comes across even more disingenuous. i think very few people can manage that spotlight "right", yet somehow there's this social guideline we think we all have to follow. it's bullshit and you're not alone.
