It's funny, but I only heard about the 'buying next year's King Cake' when I was a teenager. Shocked me to no end. I always knew 'finding the baby' to mean 'good luck in the upcoming year'. Maybe my family overly sheltered me. I was all about the King Cake and getting that baby.

I used to wonder this ALL THE TIME! They stick them in afterwards, though, which was a huge relief!!

 

We got presents! Like we needed more after all the presents we'd already received or were going to receive. It was usually small, but it was fun.

Now I wish I'd done the King Cake with my kids! I did not. For us it was about baby Jesus and they aren't being raised religiously (however, I do take my kid to church every Christmas Eve so....)

 

Oh I hope these souls aren't crushed by an Andy rejection. I'm 1-1. Hopefully about to be 2-1

Somehow I made it to the ripe old age of 51 never figuring this part out.

I like the idea of a magic plastic baby that doesn't melt or go toxic better.

 

We've never done a King Cake here, I'd never even heard of them until I was an adult, even.
