@ThisPoorGuy Am I remembering right that you run Parallels? If so does it use way more disk space than what seems necessary?

I'm using 72 gigs and only have one (small) application Windows application installed

classic "ymmv" of course, but it wasn't even close to functional on my ancient mac because it hogged all the resources. i haven't tried it again since getting a new one though, and badger speaks highly of it, so maybe she has some tricks up her sleeve.
