Thought of you as I was walking out one of my back doors just now on the way to the garage and spotted my redneck way of reducing the cat pee smell in our house that I didn't mention earlier. Plastic bags. In my quest to reduce single use plastics I save bigger bags to be used as cat litter bags and store them on top of the cheap catbox with a lid (and flap! See the flap? helps keep odor in). On top of the charcoal filter, which further helps keep cat pee smell inside of the box.

Of course, this only works if you get a front loader catbox and not a top loader.
