My mom has injured her knee to the point where doctors say surgery might be pointless. Would something like this help her walk/maintain better balance? She has fallen quite a few times with her knee. I just can't see how she can function normally without some kind of help.

I don't know why but when I first read this I read what you wrote as "debating buying a knee brace or just a full-on leg" and I thought...wow...I mean, a new leg...kinda drastic, eh? Go with the brace, first!

this isn't the full leg so not as expensive this is better for my knee the other would not have fit against my knee as tight as I need it but I would not have been dependent on the straps to keep it in place. My calf muscle was cut and rotated around to cover the front of my leg so I don't have the calf muscle to keep these in place plus the grafts on the front make for uneven skin. The last knee brace I tried had to be tightened so much to stay in place it cut of my circulation which was obviously a problem.

how did yours work out

 

Can't they just replace her knee? Both my grandmas had knee replacements and they were like new people after they recovered.

there are different kinds for different problems so you'll need to do some research but any good one should offer more stability

 

That's what I thought at first too. But the injury is in the ligaments behind her knee. I'm not sure a knee replacement will help with that.

 

@FarFairAway once you know the brand and style check ebay you can find good deals even on new ones

 

That's what I would think as well. I will research it for her. She is in such a down, negative place over her knee. It breaks my heart.

 

I read it as "debating buying a knee", didn't register the word brace and thought that's a weird way to say you might need knee replacement surgery.
