Maybe when the weather gets nice, he might like taking "strolls" outside again. Now that he's more comfortable, he's probably so much happier indoors; especially with someone to sleep on. I remember a few days ago you mentioned his possible limp; is it better/worse?

I love how we can read our cats and what their thinking (like with Lucy and the see, she loves me look).

I'm so glad The SpenceMan is doing better (insert heart emoji that I can never find - where is that damned thing, anyway? )

Lol. It's under old smiles

Yeah, it could be the weather. He could much prefer being indoors and now that he has accepted this as home he doesn't feel the need to wander back and check out his old, outdoor territory.

His limp does seem better but I don't think it's a paw. One cat threw up one night and I'm wondering if it's Spencer and he's not feeling well. But he comes out for treats and he's eating and he's drinking and peeing so...that's all going well. He sleeps A LOT. More than my other cats, which is what's making me think he's an older dude. Lucy and Lotta are both no more than 5 years old but I think Spence could be up there more. Vet said at least 6 years old, but possibly a lot older, too hard to tell. Whatever time he has left, he can spend it sleeping on my head and know he's safe!

He's probably sleeping because he actually can sleep deeply now that he's totally safe.

Good Morning All.

 

Huh. I didn't look too closely. It was for sure cat food but I didn't look for fur, and you're correct in assuming he's doing a lot of licking and there is noticeably more fur in my house (which shouldn't be the case since my dog shed like a mofo, despite her being small she was like a porcupine just shooting fur all over the house all the time!)

He is probably shedding the super thick coat he had to grow to be ok outside.

now I'm going to go dust and vacuum the hell out of my house, lol. I'm crocheting a blanket for a friend who just remarried, and I'm crocheting all the first names of the new family into the blanket. But she is super allergic to cats. She came and stayed with me once and I was able to clean the house so well she didn't need her meds and I've been trying to keep the cats off of this blanket hoping for a similar success. but I've noticed SO MUCH more fur. And Spencer shedding might explain it! So cleaning I will be doing in an attempt to not poison my friend when I ship this blanket to her after I'm done, lol.

 

Could he just be adjusting to eating a different brand of cat food? I know with dogs you can't make a sudden switch between brands because it upsets their tummies.

 

He could be. How long does it take to adjust? He's been eating it for a couple of weeks now.

he sometimes eats a lot. Way more than my other cats and I thought that was just due to his size (or at first to his worms). Wonder if he's just accustomed to over eating due to being on the streets and not always sure of his next meal?

And that reminds me. He needs two more pills today. Off to wrap SpenceMan in a towel and shove two pills down his throat.

 

Stomach worms can make animals eat more, because, well, that's just the nature of having worms. Also, adjusting to new food can depend on the animal, last time I switched King's food, I went with a full month to transition between his old bag and his new. Since he's an old boy, it might take longer. My dog will also eat himself stuffed if I didn't strictly control his feeding schedule, I'm not sure how it is for cats, though. My dog gets his food 2x a day and no more, because he absolutely will eat it all if you keep his bowl full.

 

He got the worming pills two weeks ago at the vet, which they said usually kills them all and he'll poop them out (lovely). I just gave him the last two which vet said was mostly just a safeguard to ensure they got them all. (That was surprisingly easy to do, though he's upset with us now and looking at me like I betrayed his trust.)

Maybe it is a food transition. There's only been one throw up pile and we aren't 100% sure which cat did it as it happened in the middle of the night and whichever one it was chose to barf right in front of the bathroom door. Fortunately we found it visually and not with our feet! I'll just keep an eye on him.

Just saw him walk a bit and the limp is almost gone, so whatever caused it seems to be much better. Phew!
