I think they're cute! They're like patchwork denim. I used to have some (wish I still did!). They also can have suede or corduroy in them.

I can't find cute pants but like this, but as pants:

 

Those go back to the 60s. Bell bottoms and patchworky pants were super popular, had me a pair as a kid in the 70s and got more in the 80s/90s when 60s retro was back.

 

I have a pair of jeans that are the most comfy but one leg is like 50% pants 50% hole. I'm waiting to find the perfect patch material.
