Tangentially related....Kiddo is watching Animal Farm in history class. He's extremely intruigued. Mentioned when they turn Boxer (the horse) into glue. I quipped, "Yep. They used to make glue out of horses!" and he flipped out realizing this wasn't made up for the movie. We decided that kind of gave "eating paste" in kidergarten a new spin.

When I first started hanging around TV, I thought you were mean and snarky, but with enough time, I realized you're mean to people who antagonize you, make the same comments every single day (is it only slow for me) or who are generally disagreeable, but you're are actually super helpful to people who aren't asses and genuinely ask questions to get the information. The problem is there are more people acting like asses than people in need of help, so you came off as mean just because of the ratio of idiots/in-need-of-help.

You're alright in my book weeg.

 

I mean, horse used to be a not very uncommon meat back when we actually had a use for work horses and didn't just drive everywhere. Easier to just eat it than deal with an old horse that can't work no more and letting all that meat go to waste. I mean, horses are a ton of meat.

 

I never knew there were so many products in the Reese's family. When I was a kid, Reese's Pieces were exotic.

 

Right? why aren't they made like that all the time? Why is the peanut butter otherwise not as good?

Note: I'm a huge peanut butter fan. I regularly scoop it onto a spoon and just eat that for breakfast. If I feel like being healthy I'll add a banana.

I did tell the kid, "Well, violin strings used to be made from catgut, too." (not telling him that is a misnomer. It is made from the intestines of some animals, but not cats). And I said, "Back in the day, we used to use the WHOLE ANIMAL. We didn't have fancy plastics and all that jazz. And come to think of it, the olden ways in this instance might be better than what we're doing to our world now!!"

We have very interesting conversations on the rides home from school.

(We barely speak in the morning. Neither of us is a morning person. We just tolerate each other on the ride to school.)

 

The gasoline engine made horses obsolete a long time ago and we should have begun eating them again decades ago.
