    HEY
    [IMG]

Also.. if anyone cares. I actually took out a personal loan (that I just finished paying back Friday, boooyah baby) and went to HComp (the thing @jsxca linked to a few times lol): https://www.humancomputation.com/2019/organizers.html to try to start seriously interfacing/learning the ropes on all the academic stuff.

I'm legitimately investing into trying to figure out how to stop this janky academics speaking for workers crap. Granted.. I don't really want to speak for y'all either because.. well.. I think everyone here has CLEARLY seen my language skills :emoji_joy::emoji_joy::emoji_joy: but idk what else to do lmao. I'm pretty positive it's going to take showing up to these places and forcing the issue, because - sadly - on the internet the block button exists to "build your own bubble" >.>

people want to grinch they don't make money on mturk but then don't want to invest in it. You are basically running your own business and that takes some investment of time and resources. Want to run an online story need to BUY accounting software or some kind of payment gateway possibly spend time researching potential merchandise and on and on. Want to actually make a living on mturk research scripts and requesters spend time learning skills and pay for more robust scripts IF they will benefit you if not move on

Of the literarily dozens of people and companies making money off my data I hate @ChrisTurk the least.

They do.. a highly curated list of people who the interfacer knows what they're going to say. Just look at morweegs screenshot on the quals for one of those HITs. The exact same thing happens when a researcher interfaces with TO. "Oh, you want to speak to workers? Sure, here is <x> & <y> they've been with us forever!"

How else will you know you're speaking to experienced workers if I don't vouch for them?

Regardless of your language skills...or if you speak perfectly...we appreciate what you're trying to do. (besides...isn't that what you have @NBadger for :emoji_joy:) But, if others don't see how much you do for us...that's their loss. :emoji_hugging:

Also btw @ChrisTurk you can add a .00000001 bonus (don't put a 0 in front of the decimal) and the hit shows at $0/hr on TV. Nice.

Yeah, I've been around mturk/academics in general long enough to know how shifty some of this research is. I still wish before they write articles/thought-pieces/thesis/whatever they would leave the bubble to get some real feedback from the people who actually stopped using TO, or used to be moderators/admins/whatever and stepped down. Just goes to show you so much of this nonsense is cliquish.

Also, I would like to take the opportunity to point out that there was no TN exclude qualification on the survey I posted earlier. So she could've stacked all 3 versions with her cronies and no one will know the difference. Yet this is expected to be taken seriously as "academic" research. I wonder just how many other papers that claim we make .97/hr were similarly stacked.

It's a point of pride, too. One of them refers to themselves on Twitter as "king of mturk" or some dumb shit because he turked for 30 minutes before quitting because "it was hard"

which.. I do here too, so, I guess it's all fairness and in good fun/perspective, but no one is giving me millions of $ to not produce a single functional piece of tech so I'm salty about it.

unless.. @L Lemon you're down to give me a small loan of $1,000,000 - right?

And people wonder why academic studies just aren't being taken as seriously as they once were.

As someone who has already asked 2 different universities & 2 (maybe 3) government entities to look at it.. I'll just go ahead & confirm so long as the NSF doesn't pull the funding they do not give one single, solitary fuck.

Eh hmm, um, well, um, it's going to take me a bit to come up with that amount. It could be done though. There's always money out there for legitimate companies to take advantage of (like in the good way). You always find it in the fine print that no one else is willing to sift through in my experience.

Would you settle for a Ulysses Grant to start?
