It's hard Dave went through a lot of that when I first got out of the hospital and couldn't do anything for my self let alone the kids. On top of that he had to deal with my emotional breakdowns every time I got bad news from the doctors. I know he struggled with being resentful and I had to give him the space to feel however he was feeling about it.

I never got full use of my leg back and so we had to find a new balance and make changes around the house that allow me to do things on my own. Hopefully in your case she will recover and things can go back to normal.

We don't have grandchildren yet but I am not so patiently waiting for one. Thought it scares me a little because I know I can't carry an infant or chase a toddler so not sure how that is going to go.

Wish you and your wife the best and hope life gets back to normal soon.

I'm just struggling because I feel like every single thing is on me, like if I got the flu for 3 days the wheels would fall off of everything.

You need to have a talk with those kids and tell them they need to step up and help at the very least not add to the problem. Tell them you are struggling and would appreciate their help.

We had 2 kids at home at the time and they stepped up to help with me and with the house or Dave would have probably totally lost it in the end I think it made them much more responsible and empathetic adults (30 days till the last one turns 18) and certainly made us closer as a family. My daughter has been in two serious relationships over the last few years (almost married one) and made it clear to both that if her dad dies before me that I will be moving in with them.

I had this conversation...nothing changed. My son is still in bed school started 5 minutes ago. My daughter is 16 going on 8, she literally won't do things for herself let a lone anyone else. She is ADHD/ODD her response to me telling her that I need some help and some time to myself was to get detentions and ISS so now I have to add picking her up from school to my list of shit to do.

We told her she wasn't allowed to take her phone to school anymore because she literally won't put it down when teachers tell her too...she waits till I'm in the bathroom then takes it and runs out the door.

ITS at my company went Agile several years ago, and invariably some people went 110% berserk. Everything must be in official Agile terminology. Yawn.

Technical jargon - whether it be IT, engineering, computer science, whatever - can be very useful and, when properly used and ubiquitously understood, it removes ambiguity in the domain. But trying to foist it on the customers often just leads to angst, annoyance, anger, and other negative "A" words.

Keep it in the team. Use it where appropriate. But don't confuse the customers, or it's now become counter productive.

P.S. - those stupid freaking certifications, too. Scrum master - really?

Full disclosure, What 've got handy are my grandfather's books on TQM and the Deming Way (including binders from Demmng User Conferences. ) and I start of a handle on 6σ and Lean 6σ. I've never looked at Agile.

I put a lot of store in six sigma. I think one of the big problems with Agile is it became very popular and everyone started doing it and getting the certifications without understanding it. You used to be able to get the CSM certification by just doing a two day training course - originally it didn't even require a test at the end. You had a bunch of newly certified scrum masters coming out of a two day course and sneering at "traditional" project management, but they had never run a legitimate development project in their lives, while PMP required you to have a few years of real world experience before you could even sit the exam.

When I did the CSPO training course, there was an independent consultant there who told me during a break she had no idea what Agile meant or what it was, but she was pursuing the certifications because it made her more valuable to potential clients.

Over the years, so many people have modified it and altered it to their own needs that Agile can now be just about anything you want it to be - and that's a problem. Six Sigma, by contrast, is very well defined and quite rigorous.

Agile has some great tenets and, if you know what you're doing and think carefully about why you're doing certain Agile practices, it really can be extremely productive. But it can also be incredibly vague, wishy-washy, and amateurish. Combine that with silly uneducated fan-boys/girls who know the lingo but don't really have the maturity, and it's a recipe for frustration.

Still kind people in the world

Just got this email from my son's school and thought I'd share something nice someone did. This did not personally effect me but I know that someone put $100 on my sons lunch account years ago when I was in the hospital and wonder if it was the same person.

Our community of redacted is a special community. This was fully evident last week as an anonymous donor paid off our district's entire school lunch debt. More than 205 families had existing lunch debt and through one kind action, our families' lunch debt has been erased. Kindness goes a long way!
