That's pretty sad, in my wifes office 1 woman is getting to work from home while no one else is so they aren't happy with this...she has a 10 year old daughter and literally told them she couldn't be there cause her kids not in school...seems weird since a 10 year should be able to stay home alone.

 

No way in heck would I let MY 10 year old stay at home. He's not mature enough to do that yet.

 

I think that varies from state to state. My son is 9 but he's ADHD and on the low end of the autism spectrum. I wouldn't leave him home alone all day for like 4 or 5 years yet!

 

I understand but generally someone that age you'd think could manage.

 

I get that. I stayed home at 10 by myself. But RJ? The only time he was home alone was when I went to the dollar store a mile down the road to pick up something. He called me while I was there wondering when I'd be home. I'd only been gone 7 minutes

 

i agree this was quite common before and something that happened regularly with me, but i wouldn't do it in today's day and age. especially in what you could consider a crisis situation

I let my son play in the front yard when he was 5 years old and one of the neighbors called CPS on me.
