I brought in a bag I had crocheted today not knowing they started this new rule (just started today) so they let me bag up my stuff in it myself. The checker really liked the bag and I told her I was making them while isolating. she told me she loves those types of bags and when this is all over she wants to buy one.

Yeah, girl, you're getting one, or three, for free. Least I can do. Once this is over I'm going to carry them with me when I shop there and give them to her next time I see her.

 

Social experiment:
Hypothesis: If you pass a stimulus package so large that every major corporation in every single sector will receive millions if not billions of dollars more than they will lose will they pass any of it into their hourly workers who are LITERALLY (made my store run two days ago and say multiple high risk people working) putting their lives at risk every day they go in even though they can do so and STILL profit?

It was only yesterday when I went to two places for necessities that it occurred to me to make a point of telling my check-out person that we all appreciate what they're doing, and that they're our new 'national heroes'. Not as significant as the terrific points you made,
but I hope it counted for something.

 

There are docs/nurses just straight up quitting here before it gets bad. I cannot fathom someone going to their min-wage job as a cashier in a grocery store atm. Aisles in walmart are still so close together you can tell down to the hour the last time the person walking past you changed their underwear

 

As much as we need those doctors/nurses right now, I can't blame them. There's so much stress that's going to be placed on the healthcare system in the coming weeks/months. Times ahead are going to be scary, especially if your job is deemed "essential" so you don't even get to be a couch potato. Though of course those couch potatoes are stressing too because they're out of work and bills don't pay themselves.

 

I just want to say that you people actually leaving your homes to get groceries are heroic and brave.

 

At this point it's just entertainment. I know there wont be anything to actually buy, but at least I get a few chuckles out of all the folks walking around in their completely screwed up hazmat suits

 

the real heros are the working 16 year olds who are now getting hazard pay

 

The quest for baby wipes still hasn't ended?

 

16 year old me would definitely be like "gimme all the shifts IM BROKE"

 

Especially now that your parent's jobs are non-essential and the only one working is you.

 

Meanwhile, a friend asked me to come to her birthday dinner party tomorrow. I carefully said, ehhh, nah, probably not. Saw on social media today that she's at work, sharing cupcakes with her coworkers, "cheers"ing with the cupcakes, smooshing them together after each taking bites out of them then continuing to eat them. When asked again if I'm going tomorrow, uhhhh, 100% no, I'm good. And I'm the bad guy. At least I'll be a living bad guy.

 

Just reschedule it, please. Who cares if it's not celebrated on the actual day when the country is entering nationwide lockdown?
