Free outside of just doing W2 income? Unsure.

I think if you are going to do any sort of self employment income, you need the upgraded/premium version of most tax software. It might be worth comparing on TurboTax what your refund looks like with claiming the Schedule C and other deductions against a straight line 21 Other Income claim.

Sch C will only benefit if you take deductions(depreciation, office use of home, utilities, etc). If you don't know these figures or how to do this, I would suggest calling up a CPA and seeing their thoughts on it since TurboTax only provides so much guidance. There is no option to just plug in Mechanical Turk and have it ask you stuff that only pertains to turking. I personally have a CPA do all this for me, but that's because I have more going on than just turkin money.

A CPA will provide a greater insight as to what is allowable within the confines of tax law and there is a very good chance that their cost(typically 100-200 bucks for basic stuff like this) will be far less than what you would end up paying in taxes when you realize all the deductions you can take. It might be worth even calling a TurboTax CPA which i think is free if you are using their software, and asking them directly. Also, you can use a CPA a single time to figure out how they do things for you. Then going forward you can just mirror what they did every year thereafter on TurboTax with small adjustments for that tax year.

Ex: 1000 dollar computer you got within the tax year? Thats a 5yr depreciation schedule which means you can deduct 200.00 a year from your Sch C earnings. That alone just paid for your CPA that first year.
