Just hold the meetings in a clean/neutral space like your kitchen or something, it's not like they're walking through and scrutinizing every single inch of your house.

It's not exactly an ideal situation, a lot of kids think this is a vacation so they have no desire to do the stuff.

 

My kids do their work at the kitchen table. Have had some video conferencing. They finish their homework for the entire day right in the morning so they can do what they want the rest of the day. I have them very structured though. I'm happy they are allowing all of this because now my son can still finish AP placement tests for high school next year.

I understand people's resistance to having to deal with their kids doing things at home but if you can't teach them now how to deal with unexpected events in life than they will surely fail later on. It's very important that if the school is asking them to do work that they get it done. Teaches them motivation and life coping skills as well as self sufficiency.

 

well I don't have any kids so. but it seems like they would be so much better off if they can show their teachers they learned how to grow tomato plants or knit a really warm sweater or successfully cook a complete meal. or any other things the schools don't teach, but maybe I'm wrong.

 

Plus, the sooner they get all their schoolwork done, the sooner they can get back to playing Animal Crossing.

I agree. I think I'm doing it wrong though HAHA. My kid gets all his work done in 2 days. The first packet, boom, done. The second packet we picked up Monday, boom, done. He has to do some online kids learning programs but that's all he has left for the entire month.

You and RJ posess the same philosophy.

 

Honestly? While those things are kinda important, most kids have functional parents to teach them that sort of stuff. It would be nice if there were more life skills required courses in schools, but sometimes it's best to leave it up to the parents.

On the things that they could work ahead on they finished within the first day or two! Things that are daily lessons handed out though over email they can't. My son has a virtual learning class that was all online prior to this. He had it done the third day of last marking period lol.

Agreed the schools already have their hands full. Parenting is still there for a reason. The only thing I wish was a requirement in every school however is a money management class.
