My dog is like the friggen predator for small critters (well, he once tried to murk a coyote but I wouldn't let him lmao) and you can't give him a good space to ambush things, like an enclosed yard with high walls the birds have to fly over to escape the dog they didn't realize was there cause he's a psycho predator who literally crouches on the ground and crawls towards them, covered in sand.

I had a shar pei when I was a kid that would catch birds like that. He'd lay right by the back wall and wait for the birds to hop around in the grass. Then when he'd pounce I guess instinct made them just try to fly back to the wall and he'd snatch them right up. As soon as they stopped moving, he would put them down and wouldn't care anymore. Usually the turtles would come around and eat them.

That's basically Skeet's methods, but he's also really good at jumping and climbing (which is a catahoula thing), so you see him crouched down low and silent and then he just jumps up the wall like barkour and comes back down with a bird and you're like...WTF MAN! He's also brought me squirrels He's mommy's little monster. I chuckle when he tries to catch road runners in the open desert cause...never gonna happen.

I'm always torn between "my dog is a monster!" and "holy crap, that was pretty impressive for an 8 year old dog!" Skeet will also eat whatever he catches if you don't stop him, he's definitely a subsistence hunter so to speak. He once coughed out a bird leg and stared at me like, "Wut?"

And then the bot blames Skeet and I'm sitting there like...this is why we don't put birb food in the back yard, it's just a murder buffet for a hunting dog!
