There's something about dogs in the 30-50 lbs range that mix raw strength with agility. My shar pei, Bruce, would take off after whatever caught his eye sometimes and he would jump over people's walls and climb trees. One time he chased a cat into my friend's backyard and didn't realize he could just jump back over the wall, so I had to get my friend to unlock his gate.

Bruce was also chained up to a tree in the front yard and he snapped it like a string when he took off. I don't know how he could be so strong.

I also don't know how a dog that was entirely black could sneak around so good in broad daylight, but he was so silent and patient when bird hunting.
