I'm waaaay late to the game here, and haven't scrolled through further messages, but look on CL or FB Marketplace. I've seen a bunch of "Working before removal, we just upgraded to a bigger unit" units going for $100-200. Swapping them out is easy as long as you mark everything during disassembly and take pictures. Then, all you'd need is a service call from an HVAC co. to recharge and test.

 

I second this fan. I have one running in the bedroom 24/7 for the past like year or two with only being shut off when the power goes out.

 

If nothing else, I knew this would be more in my price range.

 

TMI but I can't stop beefing and it smells 100% like onion rings to the point my husband asked me if I had baked up our last batch of them....

I have a few of these dudes. I don't even remember when I bought them but they've surely met their lifespan and then some, and they're still champs. They've even survived being operated on for me to clean, and I somehow managed to not break it.

Lmao my apartment is a little less than 1000 sqft. That's a huge ass garage!

 

I did it for two years. Granted, I was under a bridge with a creek 20 feet away and 10 ft below ground level, so even when it hit 104, the air temp down there was like 80, tops.

The trick is airflow and stay out of direct sunlight.
