By not listening to the lyrics and only hearing angry rock? You can jive with angry rock any time without caring about the lyrics. I mean, people do still like certain rap musicians despite not having a single understandable lyric. I'll bet a good chunk of Public Enemy fans also don't realize how political they were as well.

Society in general? There's a lot of angsty rock out there that appeal to angry teenagers, you can like an artist without being down with the movement they represent.

Oh that's fine I won't remotely say that isn't the case, I just always thought their political views were very up front, hell those guys have been on tons of things talking about it.

 

You think your average angsty teen who listens to RATM has actually listened to them talk about societal issues? You give teenagers too much credit. Yeah, there are plenty who are down with it, but RATM was hugely popular as well.

 

Hey, the man is crazy but I love his early music.

 

Solid point, I grew up with them and was always pretty aware but yea.

 

Did you see his Youtube channel before they took it down? Dude went completely off the deep end, but he also spent his formative adult years in prison, in addition to marrying an 18 year old he'd been chatting up since she was 15 straight out of prison.
