You were actually one of the people I was thinking of in terms of "entire package". If I remember correctly, you deliver pizzas, Turk, other micro-job sites, and you seem to buy and sell thrift store/garage sale/garbage at the side of the road.

If that provides you freedom and a happy lifestyle, it's hard to compare that to the 40k/year office worker who hates their job. On the flip side, those said office workers could be laughing at us as they rack up a pension.

It's all relative.

 

A large part of the legitimacy of this source of income is that it suits my lifestyle and aligns with my values in a way that many other "real jobs" do not. These values and my lifestyle also happen to be out of line with what my family members agree with, so perhaps that's why I have such a hard time getting them to respect it. It's about a lot more than the amount of money I can make here, but that isn't easy to put into words that some people will be able to understand.

I just choose not to tell my family what I do. Well, that being said, the last time I talked to my family members about work, I was working a desk job and I'm still inbetween real-life jobs right now. mTurk happens to make less than what I did for work, but it's more than enough for me to pay my bills and put a sizeable amount into savings each month.

I agree with this 100%. I like to live a minimalistic lifestyle and it's hard for me to have a normal job that aligns with that. I'm still getting on my feet with my real career (trying to get a YA novel published currently) but no one really respects that Mturk is a good source for me at the moment. My friends all seem to think I'm a jobless bum who sits on the Internet all day, but somehow I still manage to pay my bills and do the things I love. Like you said... it's hard to put into words.

 

Not working today because of my oldest's first prom. But threw the MSRNE pandas up this morning before leaving for the gym just in case. Grabbed both right before I got home. Less than an hour total to finish both. Easy $17, so panda those babies.

Now I need to go shower, because sitting here working on my day off covered in gym sweat is all types of unacceptable.

Anyone else who does UHRS seem to be having some issues? Getting a lot of blank HITs, problems with loading, and my report hasn't updated in hours.

 

Yep. No matter how much I make; regardless of the fact that I've never asked anyone for help of any kind; and despite the fact that I've never missed a payment on anything, ever -- I am still seen as a jobless bum. It's frustrating. I think we likely can't change their minds, but it's good to know there are some who get it.

I wish you luck in getting published!! That is exciting, and I know it is a difficult path in itself.

 

Oh that's the least of their concerns. I was raised in a conservative Asian family, and I'm sure whenever my mom even thinks about how I'm not a doctor, she wants to pull her hair out.
