07/04 - 4th, 4th, 4th!

Fun fact, my tribe celebrates 4th of July with a week of pow wows, food vendors, other ceremonies, and activities. The US government made it illegal for Native people to gather and practice ceremonies so our ancestors hid under the guise of a 4th of July Celebration. This would have been our 52nd Lumbee Homecoming, had COVID-19 not cancelled everything, but the vendors. So, Happy Lumbee Homecoming guys here’s a POC of my sweet granddaddy William Berry.

 

What tribe? My husband is Cherokee.

Also we have been to many pow wows in the North East.

Catching up - this pic of your grandaddy is amazing.

Husbands family is also from the hollers - but they went underground during the trail of tears. And changed their names to stay safe.

Also it's been really hard to find family because the Cherokee closed the rolls during husbands high school years.

 

I think we are all maybe in a fraught times?

This forum is for work, and sometimes we gather around the water cooler and talk about politics, post music, talk about families, argue food <mayo with fries> etc. etc.

But in the end - I just really, really need someone to tell me how to change my avatar back to not having a butt hat on it.
