    N95 don't really need to keep your breath from spreading to others. It's a really interesting design that uses electrically charged fibers to attract particles at 95% efficiency, hence the designation N95. Whether air passes in or out, the fibers collect the particles. Airflow actually helps it work better because it dries the fibers better.

    I'm not sure what the valve in an N95 mask is for in a medical setting, but in an industrial setting it definitely helps with breathing since there is much large particles that can build up and restrict airflow.
