Maine is a shit show as far as testing in general. Husband is a contractor and works in a lot of tourist houses and adheres to the if you come from out of state you won't see him or his crews or subs for two weeks while they quarantine, and even after that he and his guys all wear masks or wait at least three hours after the clients leave the house to bring his crews in (still masked).

Here we only have one testing place (the local hospital) and it still is taking at least a week to get results back. Most of the tourists (upon learning that no one will come to their homes to fix things) go to Portland (1.5 hours away) which has next day results, but is also administered at the hospital.

I haven't heard of anyone that wasn't at least RN level administering the tests (thus the driving all the way to Portland) so it seems pretty crazy that they are asking your wife to.

I think the "kick your boss in the shin" approach seems really sane.

That said.... one of the carpenters in the area that my husband occasionally subcontracts too just flew to ARIZONA for a few days (they had planned to go for a week but left after two days because they couldn't believe the "virus was so bad there") - and now is shocked that no one in the area will work with him until he gets a test. He just called husband and asked him to meet him at a job site and husband was like nope. Which is a huge bummer because his massive stupidity is costing everyone work and money and he's too dense to even realize it. The irony is the job site is a couple that came up from Texas and quarantined for two weeks AND got tests done in Portland and followed all the rules. He couldn't believe THEY wouldn't let him in the house. smh

Well, some of them are... (see above) - I think that husband just refuses to work with the idiots that think it's all some kind of hoax.

A local hairdresser is getting death threats for calling on out on facebook the few open restaurants (not curbside) in our town that put up signs on their doors saying "Our Staff Does Not Wear Masks Due to Health Issues". So there's currently a bit of a town war going on.

 

If their health issues are so bad they can't wear masks, just wait until they get the Covid.

FWIW I really & truly am not super tinfoily about this stuff, I swear. I think opening schools safely is reasonable and probably necessary (I'm not making commentary on the real world reality on this one fwiw), etc etc. But information is good for context is all lol.

 

One of the biggest problems is you either live in an area that takes it seriously or you live in a place like me where everyone acts like it's a cold, it's really frustrating how the entire world can take something seriously then you come to American the land of dipshits.
