...damn this is actually a perfect summary.

@NBadger is currently on leave, if a van that says "free badges" pulls up definitely jump in. Don't worry, no way it's going to take you to an editing desk where you'll be chained up and forced to read horrible manuscripts written in my shorthand + on-hand gif search results

Semesters in California start the week of the 24th depending on the school system (CalStates on the 24th, semester-based UC's like Merced/Berkeley - the 26th, quarter based UC's like UCLA don't start until October 1st.) The Ivies seem to be starting around September 2nd.

Are you telling me I'm going to have to start working more than 2 hours per day because that's seriously going to cut into my low quality content messageing and beat saber playing time.

I don't have deep knowledge of headsets, I can only tell you about what I have. My GF has sennheisers and the audio quality is very good. The mic isn't the best, but it's perfectly adequate, but they are expensive. I have the HyperX Cloud Revolver S and I think they are great. They have the regular model and the S. Regular is normal headset and the S has a dolby 7.1 ($90 vs $110).

They are closed back (sound isolating) and they work pretty well. The mic is perfectly fine too. They come with the base cable (no removable from the headset) having a 3.5mm audio jack (audio+mic), that plugs into a long 3.5mm to USB box/cable (where you get the 7.1, mic volume wheel, volume wheel, and sound options). And they also have an extension cable to goes from 3.5mm to 2x 3.5mm jacks (one for audio, one for mic) in case you have to plug in a laptop that doesn't have free USB ports or whatever. The mic is removable.

These are my thoughts and also I'm not psychology-based but still in the social sciences (e.g that graph makes me cry for multiple reasons but I digress lol). So two things I've seen from the barely a grad student perspective (first-year) is that we're being given leeway with our time frames for the next couple years. My department has reversed the requirements during Covid such that before we had to do our Masters Paper first and then our Exams but now we're allowed to do our Exams first then the Masters Paper giving us more time for data collection. I've also seen some encouragement to have your original question tinkered with just enough so that online data collection is possible while staying true to what you want to study/research. Some departments are also not taking in grad students this upcoming year/s in order to keep funding available to support their current students so that could potentially have some sort of a small effect in the years to come but probably not a big one at all.

I have a couple friends in Psychology PhD programs and they've said they were largely encouraging people to go online with their data collection if it was possible since Psychology labs which would usually run their surveys on campus for college credit can't do that this semester because the buildings are locked/no undergrads/Covid risk. They will have to pivot online - will these be coming to MTurk - I hope so but who knows.

Universities aren't openly saying this but the general feeling being portrayed from their non PR departments is that we are on the remote only boat until next August at least but potentially until there is a breakthrough in the Covid vaccine/cure area because of issues that UNC and USC are dealing with right now (multiple outbreaks) which could be good for us since research needs to pivot online.

As for that graph, it's so misleading because of the time of collection and also because if a school has multiple lines to be filled - they were still only counted once making it seem like there were less jobs which of course there are less jobs this year but yikes. Also, like always some postdocs/lines aren't publicly posted until like closer to the deadline but circulated within the department networks before being made officially public - my email can attest to this.
