Sorry, I actually stepped away to tidy up their coop so I'm hoping you see this late response. The ducks absolutely crack me up and yeah, the side eye always gets me. So, bit of a long story but one of my Sussex is so tiny compared to the rest and she was sick to the point I didn't think she was going to make it when she was a baby, wobbling around and eventually falling right into the waterer. So I spent days carrying her around in one hand up to my chest, doing chores and working on mTurk one handed to keep her warm and to keep an eye on her and it worked, she bounced back! She's still tiny compared to the rest but if I step outside, she follows me everywhere I go and lets me pick her up and carry her around.

Anyway, my older brother brought his three little boys down (the oldest being 5) to see the birds since he helped me buy them so he could get free range eggs for his family. His middle child, who reminds me so much of myself when I was little, picked up Little Girl like he had been doing it his entire life and was petting her and calling her 'his darling.' When I asked him to name her, he immediately chose Beautiful. I'm a grown man with a big beard, tattoos and a gruff attitude but I cried. Hard.

P.S. Would like to apologize for being a bit less than 'social' today.
It's been one of those depression days where you actually wish you were sad,
because then you'd at least be feeling something.
P.P.S. I don't remember if I ever posted this before, but here is one of the most
brilliant 'text emoticons' ever made, and I came up with it all by myself!
It's a signature for 'polar' people. (Not you, GPB!)
It's most effective for bi-polar individuals, although as a uni-polar person who
blasts back and forth from depressed to 'normal', I'm so happy when I'm
normal that it works pretty well for me too. Wait for it.... ( : (

 

I'd take crying all day over apathy and anhedonia every single time without question. Maybe even anxiety but the panic attacks can get pretty bad.

My new psychiatrist diagnosed me with unipolar depression so I feel ya. He wants to keep an eye on the diagnosis because I tend to get a little manic after bouts of insomnia too, but regardless it can be Hell. Laying in bed staring at the ceiling for 8 hours because you can't even convince yourself it's worth it to get up and drink a cup of water.

The worst is when you are pushing so hard to do everything right (exercise, meditation, diet, sleep hygiene, etc) to no effect, it just gets overpowered by the depression. That's when you really start to believe it's a neurochemical thing...
