I love that you're posting about seriousness when just to the left of every one of your businesslike comments is a unicorn with a rainbow coming out if its ass. That's awesome.

And I feel ya. When this forum appeared 3 or 5 or 8 years ago or whatever, I had a very similar attitude as you ostensibly do: I'm here to work and my time is valuable and I need to make money so it makes no sense to me that all these people are wasting my and others' attention and time posting and talking about things that don't involve working and making money--Wtf?... But Turking, like crafting poetry or self-actualization or vomiting in a dive-bar toilet stall, can be profoundly lonely. Every Turk forum that has existed or does exist has a social aspect along with the "business" aspect. It's predictable.

I am a degenerate lurker. This forum provides me with much, much more than I provide it. My Lurker's Guilt has impelled me in the past to contribute a small monthly sum to the forum. When one of my PayPal checks bounced, that contribution was halted. Unable to figure out how to start donating again, I considered switching from Work Mode to Normal Mode, posting a quick question like "Anyone know how to Donate here? I've scoured the forum and I can't find anything. Thanks.", and staying in Normal Mode until someone answered. Odds are, someone would have responded. If not, I could always post again or post on another forum, or whatever.

I'm actually marinating a screen-long rant about the "CR Research Group" qualification because it's Huge and it's had a dramatic affect on Mturkworld, but nobody's talking about it and I assume there are a bunch of Turkers who don't know what it is or how it has affected them; and because I suffer chronically from "That Guy" Syndrome (as so poignantly depicted in "Live Free or Die Hard") I'll probably talk about it here. When I do, I'll switch from Work Mode to Normal Mode, leave my way-too-palaverous post, and stay in Normal Mode until my boss (me) chastises me for doing so.

Point is, this forum accepts me for the type of Turker I am; I am not publicly judged form being a lurker. And when I have left a post asking for help with an issue, the same forum population that I once chided for a lack of professionalism has responded to me 95% of the time. And considering how much this forum gives me, what more could I ask for?
