Just when I thought Google was already creepy enough..

I don't normally access my email through my browser. It's downloaded to an application every few minutes and auto-deleted from the Google server. Today I logged into Gmail from my browser to do something and was greeted with this. So, not only are they reading my emails (I knew that), but they also know which emails I'm opening or not opening in Thunderbird!

 

How did you think they were marking emails as read/unread tho?

Those are marked read or unread in Thunderbird. Entire emails are downloaded via POP3 and immediately deleted from the Google server. I'm not just downloading headers. Anything still on the Google server are just things I need to delete.

 

Where does one get the code? do I use my ID?

 

Google has scanned an email by the time you get a notification of new inbox.
