02/26 - February's Final Friday

Sounds cool to me. At some age at least a year if not two before kindergarten you want to get them into some kind of pre-k environment for socialization and getting aquainted with taking direction from a different adult but up to that point if you need help with child care so that you and your wife can work I would absolutlly look into that over daycare

Like Tiger33 said, get her into something social starting around 3.5 (whether that be daycare or some kind of group playdate thing that the homeschool groups run) but other than that there are so many bonuses to the au pair thing. Language learning skills are at their height up to the age of 5 ish, then it starts declining, so having someone in the house that is bilingual can be a HUGE advantage. Just do your research and checks/reviews like anything else. I honestly think this is a fantastic idea.

I'm secure in my heritage and redneckness and do not feel threatened by other cultures like a lot of people these days. I LOVE learning about other cultures, so I don't have the "those (insert culture/race here) are going to corrupt our way of life and I'm not having them put their ideas in MY kids head" mentality. Just my southern observation.

I was thinking a lot of people are just uneducated so spending a little extra on an 'optimal path' (which.. kinda hard to argue having someone live-in 24/7 is somehow worse than daycare or nanny) isn't worth it to them. One site has a ton of Europeans so the race aspect just flew over my head lol

Personally I'm more concerned with being judged for living in worse than 3rd world conditions I assume these things only work if you're in LA/NYC/somewhere an exchange student actually wants to travel to
