While I've got some helpful people around let me get your advice on something if you don't mind Re: education level specifically what constitutes a "professional" degree vs a vocation degree.

I mostly do surveys in the mornings before work just kind of for fun and to wake up plus I like the idea of helping with academic research. I usually make like $5 a day so not really a big deal but I do like to be as truthful with my answers as I can and as I said I've kind of been wondering what these requesters would want me to put down. I'll just keep going with "some college" unless you guys think otherwise.

I have about a semester shy of a bachelor's so I've always put down "Some College" but I've always wondered if that was the correct answer.

I have what would be considered a professional degree in my industry (hospitality/food service) but it's kind of wonky. For perspective, if a culinary school associate's would be equivalent to tier 1 of 6 and a bachelor's from a culinary school would be tier 2(these are actual equivalencies btw) then I'd be 5.5 of 6 and there are less than 100 people in the US in the 6th tier (though many in 5-5.5) so quite a few levels above what you'd expect from someone with a bachelor's in my field. For all intents and purposes, tiers 4-6 are the grad/doc equivalents in my industry but, again, not really recognized outside of that since many still view us as blue-collar workers if we're lucky and "higher education" in the traditional sense via colleges or vocational schools are not available to us. This is what we have instead.

It's recognizable and held in high regard by pretty much everyone in the industry or related industries but not so much outside of that. Despite that, it is very difficult to achieve and requires at least a couple of years in training, research, and prep just to go up a tier; more the higher you go. I spent 3 years researching and prepping to bump up to my current level from the previous one.

It's far above what a vocational school/degree would offer though it is similar to how vocational degrees work I'd think since it's not a graduate/doctoral program in a university. It does however require many years of experience including several at a high level, completion of previous programs, 240 credit hours of coursework plus continuing education courses every year, a high-level written exam, a grueling practical exam, and a written narrative. This is in addition to completing each of these steps for the 5 preceding levels so it's not like it's just a simple certification.

So, I usually only post work stuff here, but I am breaking that streak for a quick warning. I always wear a mask and social distance but thought that getting COVID wouldn't be to bad since I am young and healthy. I was wrong. I have COVID and it sucks beyond anything that I can imagine.
