I want to raise ducks, but I don't want to fence them in really.

I live on the water, and it'd be cool if they can swim around on the water, but I'm not sure if they will just swim/fly away?

Do ducks get their wings clipped? Why don't they fly away? How does that work?

Do they get accustomed to their "home" and just keep returning? I'd be down for that too. And I can setup a heated area in the garage for them to have sleepovers over the winter.

Some local stores have baby ducks and I feel it's be therapeutic and rewarding to help them grow up. It'd be neat if they stay here and I can keep them over the winter and stuff. But if they swim away or fly away or become nature - that's cool with me too.

If I were to do this, I would make sure to get a local species so as to not disrupt the fragility of the wonderful world that the flying spaghetti monster gave us. I would also call DNR to make sure that this is kosher first as well. Because I ain't no law breaker.

Is any of this feasible? Am I retarded?

This is not a impulse thing. I've been going over this for a while and I'm prepared to be a duck dad.

Also if you don't mind me asking, why'd you move? You don't have to answer, I know you're cautious about your online presence and what not and I respect that.

"Do ducks get their wings clipped? Why don't they fly away? How does that work?"
Depends on the duck breed. A lot of them do need their wings clipped but like Pekin Ducks get too fat to fly.

Yeah I have no fucking clue on the other ones lmfao! I only raised Pekin ducks and they are too dumb and flat to fly away Sorry! There is a back yard chicken forum that covers ducks too that you might wanna give a read
I am gone. The ducks are fine and still there. Life happened and I left.

Wait holy shit. Is this a pekin duck?

This guy hangs out downstream from me and I always go and visit him on my yacht.

I walked down the frozen water during the winter and he charged me and plopped down right in front of me.

That would explain why he's hanging out with geese....

But you said pekin ducks were dumb so was hoping it was just a really dumb pekin duck that thought it was a goose.

    Darnit.
