05/14 - Smooth Sunday!

My biggest expenses each month are $900 for preschool and $200 for car insurance. My entire budget including food and gas and everything is usually around 2k a month.

Turking allowed me to get a divorce. Before I went full time I was fully depended on someone else who wasn't good for me or the kids. I couldn't support myself never mind 4 kids. And trying to get a "real job" as a single parent juggling 4 kids schedules and sick days and school vacations is impossible. It allowed me to pay off all my debt, minus my student loans. I'm on an income repayment plan which dropped my payments from $210 a month to nothing. I still make payments every month, but I'm not locked into that $210 when I may not always have it. I raised my credit score 250+ points from where creditors laugh at you to where they're more than willing to entertain car loans and mortgages. I have savings, for the first time in my life. Without turking, I would probably still be married, miserable, hiding from collection agencies and searching couch cushions for ramen money while having no hope for the future. Easy answer, I couldn't survive without turk.

Only saving tips I have is to make saving a priority. I cash out turk weekly like a paycheck. When it hits my bank, I pay whatever bills I can for the month. I keep $200 even in my checking account and the rest goes into savings and don't touch it unless there's an emergency. This way, I can't buy anything over $200 without having to put some serious thought into it, but always have enough for food or gas or random school supplies demanded at the last minute. I also rarely go out socially and buy clothing second hand from Thredup for myself. The kids clothes are generally Walmart/Target mixed in with nicer pieces they get for birthdays and holidays from family. And our entertainment is generally video games, Gamestop for used PS games for the kids and Steam/Humble/Indiegala sales for me.

I still suggest daily transfers to AMP even if you are going to wait until Friday to transfer to your bank.

Oh yeah, that's what I meant. I started doing that last year when transfers stopped being immediate. Daily to Payments. Weekly to my bank.

 

I just do daily both not counting weekends (on weekends I just do daily mturk > AMP) but I just wanted it to be clear to the newbies that you should be moving your money to AMP every day just to be safe.

This is a great tip. We have 2 really close that are open to the public. Neither sells perishables, but one sells dry goods at great prices. I didn't even consider searching for one that sells meat. I would live in that place.

Pretty much just Pinterest from Monday, a smattering of CIs, and 1500 Jams.

 

1) Let's see... monthly expenses roughly total $2000-$2500, thats including all the big bills (mortgage, car, etc etc)
2) I've started turking just this past month with the idea to cover our grocery bills (300-400) and I've made 600. I'm assuming a bit of an upward trend here as I qualify more and figure things out more, but if I get to around 1k a month I'd be a very happy camper. I work full time, but I spend most of my free time at the computer anyways so....
3) It's not viable for everyone, but I just bought solar panels for my house (Arizona) and the first year I won't see a return, but after that I will save a lot of money. It's on a 10 year loan but my goal is to pay it off in 5. After the first year the loan payment will be less than my electric bill would have been, so thats well and good there.
Don't eat out. I cook 2-3 times a week and its saves a lot of money.
I buy things in bulk for my family (meat, toilet paper, etc) saves some cash in the long run.
