Ehhh... How much do I feel comfortable saying? lol

I'm a software programmer for a multi-billion dollar company that has presence in the US, Canada and UK. If you do Joe Lo's, my company is one of the ones he asks about, lol. I started 9 years ago in a very very very entry level, shit-pay department. I worked my ass off in that department for 5.5 years and my now boss offered me an entry-level job to our department (with a decent raise). 6 months later, she made me a programmer. I have no college education (dropped out first semester when I got preggers) either. All I have is work ethic. And if you ask me most of the time at work what I'm doing, I will say I have no idea. I don't have a proper education base for the programming I do. I just do it and it works. :dunno:

    :emoji_wink: :ay:

Yes, they should. It's rare, but there have definitely been a glitch here or there when transfers have stopped working for hours and even a day or two. There's no need to be in the situation where you can't transfer money yet it's already been paid out to you.

    1) My monthly expenses are quite low as my boyfriend pays for all the rent, utilities and most of the food/entertainment. I eat out for lunch at work once a week, pay my cell bill (MVNO),car/motorcycle insurance, my cats expensive LID food and try to buy all my own toys (ie video games, pc upgrades, motorcycle gear etc.) I do have a car payment for another 6 months or so and then it'll be paid off :) So, maybe $500/mo which is what I make at my part-time job + insurance.

    2) Yes, immensely. It has helped me to put money in a ROTH IRA, buy the gaming PC I really wanted, and toys. I'm a total geek for gadgets, video games and PC stuff. I always want the next amazing thing that's going to come out. lol.

    3) Some have already been said, use a MVNO, buy clothes second hand etc. I do suggest setting up a separate savings account somewhere like Discover which currently has a 1% interest rate and set it automatically transfer some money to it every month. Pay yourself first; even if it's just $5. Start saving now, don't be like me and wait until you're almost 40 to start saving for retirement. Even if it's just a little each month starting in your 20's or early 30's makes a big difference when you're 60 than if you start at 40 -_- Another is to start a ROTH IRA and contribute as much as you can. I have mine at Capital One 360. It is after tax money and grows tax free. You can withdrawl up to your contribution amount without penalties in case you need it for an emergency (with some limitations). Lastly, if you have a "real" w-2 job and have access to a HSA account, take advantage of it. It's pre-tax contributions that can be used for medical expenses and if you don't use it then it's like a retirement account. *gets down off the retirement savings soap box*

    That's a sexy story!

I wanted to do that as well. Our current neighbors have them installed and I keep getting inspired to do so. So, if you get things set up, you don't need a middle company to go through anymore?

You could hire a contractor to do it yourself, but I went with Solar City. They'll try to get to to lease your shit (don't do it!) but I got a decent rate on the 10 year loan, and knew if I put my nose to the grindstone I could get it paid off sooner. The reason I went with Solar city is because they have good reviews, and recently were aquired by Tesla. I love Tesla. I want one so bad (maybe in the future...)

The biggest reason I jumped on doing it now is I just recently bought this house, and its definitely one we're going to live in at minimum 10 years. The electric company rates are only going to keep climbing higher, and as of July 1st of this year if you get into contract with a solar company you'll be grandfathered into the APS credit system. After that, it goes bye bye, and the only way to use solar effectively would be to buy a battery with your system. I'll be grandfathered into the Credit program for 20 years, and the panels are fully insured for 20 years. I plan to have them paid off in 5, so from that point on It'll be nothing but savings. From using a calculator program I estimate a total savings of roughly almost 60k during that time frame (but most likely much higher as the rates will just climb more during the years)

I have been turking for a year and a half and I think it has improved the quality of my life considerably. The longer I did it, the faster and better I got at it. The best part is when people wonder where I got "the extra money" to do fun things like shop. I've bought everything from a new home office printer, to paying for healthcare for my family.

I tried to get a friend of mine, who is sometimes envious of my shopping trips, to join Mturk. She laughed at the idea and said she wasn't interested in "such little money". A week later, I went to a very prestigious luxury store and bought my favorite bottle of perfume that cost $150. My friend saw the bottle sitting on my dresser and asked how I was "able to afford that". I told her I got it with the "little money" she laughed at.

These savings include the cost of my 100% full coverage system, which is 17k. I also forgot to mention there is a huge tax credit associated with this (I'll probably get about 8k), but I'm just going to throw it at paying off the system, so no big trip or anything lol.

Just to tack onto this, if you're going to invest with your IRA, do your OWN research. Just because a stock/company is being hyped by the "analysts" doesn't mean it's going to do well, for example Snapchat. Make sure you check what their competitors are doing and what the industry is doing in general, otherwise you might be stuck with a dud.

1 - I don't have a lot - definitely not as many as most of you guys. Big props to people like @Jesicu doing this with kids and all the expenses they come with! But I pay rent and my phone and my basic utilities. Luckily my dad pays my student loans which is a life saver.

2- Yes for the most part. Since I do this and my freelance stuff I'm at home all the time and now I actually have the desire to go out and do things, which the rest of my life I never felt. I hated going anywhere and the anxiety of being at a group thing or being with friends got to me too much. Now I get restless enough to get excited to go out and can actually enjoy myself a bit!

3 - oh god, if you have any, please share. Going to Japan next March is gonna be expensive T_T

    1. Our mortgage is 2250/month for an older 4BR house with about an acre of land but the schools here are awesome so that's why we moved here. We have two car payments, utilities, internet and cable, insurance and a bunch of debt. My husband makes good money as a developer and works for a great company. We have a lot of debt still from when we first got married and had a baby as broke college students and were dirt poor, and a bunch of medical debt from crappy insurance. This past year alone we had about $10k in unexpected emergency expenses.

    2. My current youngest, soon to be middle child, went off to kindergarten this year. I haven't worked a regular job in 10 years do to being a stay at home mom who couldn't afford child care. I loved being at home but always wanted to contribute somehow. So mturk lets me feel like I'm contributing and really helps us pay for things like kids' activities, groceries and small extras. It's a relief that it's there for times like when we had to drain our bank account to replace our furnace.

    3. Not sure if this counts but I take cash out of the bank at every pay period and somehow it's always still in my wallet two weeks later because I forget about it.
