My work laptop is a year old. I have 2 newish monitors. 1 wired keyboard, 1 wireless headphone, 1 mouse. My desktop it old. like 6 years. I am sick of constantly pulling everything out of laptop and rehooking the desktop up. I want them to switch over without this headache.

 

Not sure on the headphones at all. What type of video outputs does each machine have? How do you connect the video for 2 monitors to the laptop and desktop?

 

lmao I have no idea. I plug them all in. To the plug things.

You will need to know this in order to buy a KVM that supports what you need. Video inputs/outputs are HDMI, DVI, VGA, and DisplayPort. There are many others, but they are older and not common.

Essentially you will connect your monitors/mouse/keyboard to the KVM. Then you will connect the KVM to the laptop and desktop. The KVM then will either have a hardware button to switch between the 2 machines, or a soft button where you hit keys on your keyboard in a certain order to switch between the 2 boxes. Only 1 machine will have focus/control of the monitors/keyboard/mouse at a time.
