I like how there's still people working, just chugging along, whilst the daily dives into booze talk.

Lmao, yeah only reason I ask is because for like 3-4 years now I've just been a wine/beer person and the volume I have to drink to be where I want to be sucks.

I also grow my own lemon balm and I use whisky to make a lemon balm extract (just keep a bunch of lemon balm leaf in a jar of whisky for several months)

Then I will add some of that to my cheap whisky and it gives it a nice lemon balm flavoring

hmm, that sounds somewhat correct. I know that some whiskey can be made in toasted or charred barrels, but the fresh charred barrels are unique to bourbon. whiskeys and bourbons run on a spectrum basically, lol.

So excuse my ignorance but whiskey/scotch/bourbon all fall under the same umbrella of liquor, correct? It is just the process/flavor notes that defines them?

A big part of it is also the culture/heritage which they come from

From what I've researched, a lot of people have a lot of strong opinions about what makes what what, but ultimately it comes down to where it comes from

Well I swerved it off because college had some uhm...puke-y times. And it wasn't that I had a drinking problem, it was more the fact that when I did drink I would get myself mega-sick to the point where when I would smell certain alcohols it would make me dry heave :emoji_confounded:

Bingo! If you're thinking of it like a family tree, "whiskey" is the patriarch/matriarch. Bourbon and scotch are the offspring. They follow the same principal of creation, but ingredient ratios/requirements will vary.

yeah it comes down to the process. scotches are malted grains and bourbons are mashed grains. some Tennessee whiskeys like Jack Daniels are filtered through charcoal after distilling. there's all kinds of processes going on.
