I've lived in the midwest and I've been lucky enough to never see one, although we've had a couple whiz through town. I've always been terrified of them though. I've always kind of thought hurricanes sounded scarier though, because that's like a tornado, only with water thrown into the mix.

Yes but you know it's coming...it's not just some random event.

 

I didn't get it, even though I have emergency alerts enabled. I live in DC, so I keep it turned on due to my location.

Got emergency alerts during the January 6 Capitol storming and the curfews back in June 2020 during the protests. Worked the election last summer and last day of voting I wasn't done until 1:15am, well after curfew ended. The 2-block walk home was not fun, even though I was allowed out. Didn't want to get stopped as I had just put in a 19-hour work day.

 

Good point - a lot of people worry about wind with hurricanes, it is the flood waters that normally take people out...the big difference though, normally there is enough lead time to get the heck outta dodge if a hurricane is coming, so you can test your risk-level in a sense/have a choice at least compared to tornadoes (IMO)

Maybe the key is lobbying for a masters, or someone convincing them it produces oil.

 

AND tornados CAN out-wind a hurricane. They can put a straw of hay through a tree trunk. Unpredictable and deadly if they land on top of you.
